Appelkoos is a farm horse. At first we thought he is very lazy when we rode him. After we looked at his teeth and determined his age, we knew why. He is estimated to be between 25 and 30 years of age.
At first we could not pick up his hind legs, but soon after he arrived at Horse 'n Home, Appelkoos changed. He is still slightly nervous about his hind legs, but does now allow you to pick them up.
Appelkoos is a good confidence builder and does not react nervously, when a nervous rider is on him. We do not use him for normal riding. Appelkoos is on semi-retirement and is only used when a light, nervous, person wants to ride. Appelkoos is ideal for disabled and therapeutic riding.
Although all our horses sleep out, Appelkoos gets a blanket in winter, and should funds be available for stables, Appelkoos will be stabled in winter nights only. Horses love being outdoors - ALL the time!
